ttorney General Dale Marshall condemned the fake bomb threats that forced the evacuation of several schools this week, labelling them as “lawlessness”.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Marshall stressed the seriousness of the incidents, which disrupted multiple institutions and are now under police investigation.

The threats were reportedly sent via email on Wednesday and Thursday to the Charles F Broome, Shirley Chisholm, and St Giles primary schools, with similar threats allegedly made against private schools. In response, Chief Education Officer Dr Ramona Bradshaw issued a statement on Thursday night denouncing the “malicious activity” and urging those responsible to stop disrupting the nation’s schools. She also confirmed that five threat calls are being investigated by the police.

At a Supreme Court Complex ceremony to admit 53 new attorneys to the Bar, Marshall echoed Bradshaw’s concerns.

“Threats of any kind are a grievous disruptor. Our experience has always been that these are pranks played by people, but in every instance, you have to take it seriously,” he told reporters.

“The police have to go in, close down the premises. It disrupts the school or business house – whatever it is. It is fortunate that none of the incidents played out as real bomb threats, so we now have another set of lawlessness in our society that we have to address.” (JB)
