NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Foreign Affairs Minister Fred Mitchell addressed inquiries from the Opposition yesterday regarding the number of envoys, foreign service officers, and attachés appointed by the Davis administration since taking office.

Several months ago, Opposition leader Michael Pintard raised questions in the House of Assembly concerning the number of envoys, foreign service offices, and attaches appointed by the Davis administration and their respective compensations.

These inquiries were reiterated by Pintard during Wednesday’s session of the House of Assembly.

In response, Foreign Affairs Minister Fred Mitchell stated: “I’m advised that the administration has appointed in Haiti, three; Havana, two; Miami, seven; Atlanta, eight; Los Angeles, one; New York UN Mission, three; New York Consulate, three; Ottawa, three; Beijing, three; Toronto, five; London, five; Brussels, one; Geneva, three; Washington DC Mission, four; Washington DC OAS, two; Washington DC consulate, three; Caricom Secretariat, two; St. Vincent and the Grenadines, one.”

Pintard also directed a question to Labour and Public Service Minister Pia Glover-Rolle.

“Will the honorable minister advise this House of the number of retired officers who returned to work in the public service, and secondly, are these public officers receiving full pension and full pay?” Pintard queried.

Glover-Rolle replied: “Our team at the Ministry of Public Services is still researching those numbers so they can be compiled comprehensively. As soon as we have them compiled, we will provide the information.”

Pintard Also directed questions to Prime Minister Philip Davis regarding BPL, die $500 million loan backed by an Inter-American Development Bank guarantee, and other issues, egter, the Prime Minister stated that he was not prepared to answer any questions.
