NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Team members at Sandals Royal Bahamian recently hosted an event recently had a day to showcase their small businesses to the entire management and staff at an event dubbed a ‘Passion Pop-Up. From skincare products and women’s apparel to prop making and waxing, an extensive array of entrepreneurial and innovative prowess was on display that day.

The grand ballroom looked nothing short of the perfect arcade of investment, time, and sheer imaginativeness. The event was the brainchild of the resort’s head of learning and development, Jacqueline Ledgister-Bethell.

“As developers of our human resources, responsible for connecting people with their purpose at work, the daily interactions with our team members will uncover many hidden gems. We can see that our team members are far more than their roles at work – many of them are also talented, creative, and passionate entrepreneurs. Considering that our brand was born from the entrepreneurial spirit of our late founder Mr. Gordon ”Butch” Stewart, we thought it fitting to showcase our talented team members and celebrate the passion of these small business owners and entrepreneurs who serve our guests every day,” she shared.

Ledgister-Bethell added that the idea was birthed out of an insatiable zeal to ensure team members remain empowered beyond the normative skills training. According to her, the strategic direction of the Sandals Corporate University recognizes that learning and development for a diverse workforce can take place through other modalities outside of face-to-face sessions, online courses and on-the-job training. Engaging in customer service, presentation skills, merchandising, and sales techniques can all be developed when people showcase their passion.

Troinna Carter, a front office agent at the resort, was one of the team members whose business was on display that day. Carter is a certified waxologist who shared that the event was a melting pot of artistry and a very thoughtful gesture.

“It was a really kind gesture that bodes very well for the company and the team members. I was very happy to see our leaders give us that platform and that space to promote our passion. The room was filled with really good energy. I also benefitted from it as I got some clients that day. I give huge kudos to the team that made this happen for us. We were very inspired,” she stated.

Ledgister-Bethell echoed her gratitude, thanking the entire learning and development team and the resort’s leaders for adding momentum to the initiative.
