Sean “Diddy” Combs has apologised for his actions in a recently circulated video that depicts him beating then-girlfriend, Cassandra “Cassie” Ventura at the now-closed InterContinental Hotel in Century City, Los Angeles on March 5, 2016.

The rap mogul made a public apology via social media on Sunday, days after the CNN obtained footage made its rounds across media platforms.

In a video shared to Instagram, Combs said, “It’s so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life…sometimes you gotta do that. I was f*cked up. I mean I hit rock bottom and I make no excuses. My behaviour on that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video.”

He continued, “I’m disgusted. I was disgusted then when I did it, I’m disgusted now.”

According to Combs, he has since received professional help and is committed to being a “better man” each day.

“I went and I sought out professional help. I’ve been going to therapy, been going to rehab, had to ask God for his mercy and grace. I’m so sorry but I’m committed to being a better man each and every day. I’m not asking for forgiveness. I’m truly sorry,” he said.

In the video, Ventura appeared to be exiting a hotel room before Combs, holding a towel around his waist, runs after her. It then showed him violently grabbing her by the back of the neck and throwing her to the ground. He then kicked her as she remained motionless on the floor before dragging her by her sweatshirt toward the room.

Combs and Ventura were in a relationship between 2005 dan 2018.

The actions in the video supported claims of physical abuse Ventura made against Combs in a lawsuit last year which detailed several years of alleged abuse. The pair, however, settled the suit out of court approximately 24 hours after it was filed.

A day after the video gained international attention, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said it was unable to charge Combs for the incident as the conduct depicted in a 2016 video would have occurred beyond the timeline where a crime of assault can be prosecuted.

Earlier this year, Homeland Security Investigations (HIS) agents raided a Los Angeles home reportedly associated with Combs.
