Police, Fire officials and personnel from the Barbados Defence Force recovered the body of a woman from a well at Carmichael, St George after an intense near five-hour operation that ended around 11:15 p.m.

Acting Assistant Superintendent of Police Victor Brewster told reporters at the scene, the grim discovery was made around 5:15 p.m. by a man.

“This evening a male was exercising his dog and during his trek of the track his dog spotted a scent in the direction of the well…as he went towards that direction the scent emitted strongly from the well. At that point in time, he was unable to see the bottom of the well but he contacted the police who came and the body of the female was found.”

The senior officer said the body was in a state of decomposition and police would conduct further testing to identify the body.

Questioned on whether the body was that of missing Chefette employee Sonia Parris, Brewster said, “There is that possibility but because of the state of decomposition we have to do further testing.”

Earlier on Sunday, family, friends, and concerned Barbadians mounted an intense search across St George for Parris who went missing last Wednesday.

Brewster appealed to anyone with information to contact Police hotline at 211 or the Southern Division at 418-2612.
